Bobby was much like any other “boy next door…”

…who grew up in a loving family with two sisters and parents who were happily married. He was in the “popular crowd” in high school, yet he was friends with kids from all walks of life. He was supported through college and obtained a Master’s degree in business. Underneath all of his smiles, he was suffering. Bobby struggled with substance use disorder, and this ultimately cost him his life. In our current culture, his story is unfortunately not unique. However, what he left behind in all of those he reached, is what makes him extra special.

After battling with pills for over a decade Bobby found peace and sobriety in the twelve step program. He became an advocate, a leader, a supporter, and rock for countless people in recovery. As we know, substance use disorder is never “cured,” and Bobby relapsed after nearly four years of sobriety. This time, heroin was easier and cheaper for him to get. He worked extremely hard to get back on his feet and regain stability in his life. He was once again successful, and decided to take his outreach a step further. Over the next year, Bobby started working on a Master’s degree in counseling and was able to make a living by helping others in recovery. He also invited friends, friends of friends or acquaintances to stay in his home if they needed a safe place while searching for formal rehabilitation. It seemed on the surface that his life was really coming together, and that his addiction had finally come to serve a purpose.

What’s apparent on the surface is not always the truth. Bobby continued to struggle with internal demons. He took better care of the people around him than himself. No one will ever truly understand why, but on December 3, 2016, Bobby relapsed for the last time. He lost his battle with addiction.

Bobby lived a life that embraced unconditional love. He never judged anyone, he always put others in front of himself and he offered help wherever and whenever it was needed. That spirit of his lives on in Bobby’s House. “Bobby saved my life,” was a common phrase spoken at his celebration of life. Bobby’s House is an opportunity for those who have none. His mission to help those who want to help themselves can continue, but only with the support of those of you investing into this mission. Any little bit will help.
